TAKE OFF THE MASK

Fakes
Take of the mask and
Be yourself
Let them like who you are, for in the end they’ll see the true you
What you really see, why you really want to be
part of the group
Part of the true, the selected few who
Didn’t care about the sneering, instead steered to be their own person
Decided, realized, the joy that can come and the respect from some to be gained from being one
That chose to be real, to be true, like the unhampered, untampered with you

Fakes
Sometimes I wish they could see
How much the fake them doesn’t affect me, how much it decrees
Their weakness
Their self-righteousness
Their unpleasantness
And fogged self image
A mirage, figment of their own over-zealous head
Already too big for the body, for the physical form, too good to conform to the normalcy of being free
Free of the mask, free of the task of always trying to impress
Because from these feelings only digress, self-disgrace, a misplaced face, traveling at the wrong pace
Never to win the race
Fakes
Take what I say not with a grain of salt, but to the heart
For I am only trying to help
Be yourself, for then when you are true
No one can touch you
When achieved there is no need for impressions, for misdirected and misinterpreted intentions
Because they see the real you
And then choose
To like you, or toss you
To spite you, or fight you
To love you, or shove you, but whatever the choice
They chose you
Faulty, clumsy, fat, ugly, but in your own way
The way maybe only the few can see
The perfection you can be
